MACASSAR EBONY

For certain special projects, our clients have elected to order hardware that combines materials and finishes in imaginative ways. We’ve worked with wood, leather, stone, crystal and precious metals. We can also powder coat hardware. As one might imagine the possibilities are endless, so we have simply provided an edited selection of the materials and finishes we offer. While combinations are somewhat intuitive, there are certainly limitations. We ask you consult a member of our team about achieving your ideal handle and we will work creatively to make it happen.

Knobs, levers and pulls of wood are a long standing tradition both for traditional and modern hardware. We can use wood as grips for pulls or levers or we can use wood veneer as a field covering for escutcheon plates or flush pulls. These variations are relatively achievable but require a degree of engineering in order to best select the orientation of grain and the choice of material. Once an order is received, we often provide renderings of original concepts to confirm expectations.

We can incorporate stone in a number of creative ways. We can use the the stone as grips for pulls or levers, we can use stone veneer as a field covering for escutcheon plates or flush pulls or we can use smaller stones to punctuate particular parts of various handles for example the hot or cold inserts on vanity cross handles or the boss at the center of a knob. These variations are relatively achievable but require a degree of engineering in order to best select the type and thickness of the materials. Once an order is received, we often provide renderings of our client’s creations to fine tune the plan and ensure their hopes are met.

MATTE NICKEL

The Matte Nickel finish is created by applying precise mechanical erosion to brass and plating with Nickel. Unlike Burnished Nickel with its finely satined finish, Matte Nickel has a deeper, more uniform surface texture that can be felt with one’s hand. Optionally, top coatings are offered in glossy or satin powdercoat to increase durability or change the sheen of the finish.

MED ANTIQUE BRASS

To achieve Medium Antique Brass our craftsmen use a complex series of secret steps which ultimately result in the hand worked look. This finish is darker than Light Antique Brass. You can expect the Medium Antique Brass finish to lighten over time where heavily handled to expose the underlying brass and have the patina itself darken as it ages. Variations in tone and depth are to be expected, as with any hand finish.

We can incorporate leather in a number of interesting ways. We can use the material to wrap components like grips for pulls or levers, we can use leather as a field covering for escutcheon plates or flush pulls or we can use saddle leather to serve as the pull itself. These variations are relatively achievable but require a degree of engineering in order to best select the type and thickness of the hide. Clients sometimes supply the leather for matching other elements of an interior.

MEDIUM PEWTER

Our finishers begin with a nickel plate and employ a series of secret processes to achieve this subtle and varied Medium Pewter finish. You can expect the finish to lighten and reveal nickel undertones over time in heavily handled areas and have the patina darken in areas that are not frequently touched. Variations in tone and depth are to be expected, as with any hand finish.

N° 8204P

The No 8204P cabinet knob was often used in Neoclassical Park Avenue apartment buildings of the 1920s. It is provided in four sizes. A plain astragal complements the ogee face and torus edge of the knob, which is also available with beaded or roped detailing. The shallow cove of the shank is echoed in the edge of the optional rosette, which is available at an additional cost. It is often specified with the companion No 1204 knob, which is manufactured in a variety of sizes for full-sized doors. All NANZ plated and patinated finishes are available.

NANZCRAFT

NANZCRAFT combines hand-relief and mechanical erosion to create an as-cast texture that can be added to most any hardware design. Shown here in Medium Antique Brass, this proprietary process can be combined with most any of our standard finishes to create a broad range of color, texture and character. We encourage you to view our range of NANZCRAFT samples at any of our showrooms.
